Hremzli — Maramureș Potato Pancakes
Hremzli (also known as «Hermze» in Baia Mare or «Hremzli» in Sighetu Marmației) are traditional Maramureș potato pancakes made from a simple batter of grated raw potatoes, eggs, flour, and seasonings, fried in oil until golden and crispy. They are the local equivalent of «potato pancakes» from other regions and resemble the famous Jewish «latkes» — a legacy of the region's historical multiculturalism. Served with sour cream, cheese, or simply as a seasonal snack.
