Tânjaua Hotenarilor
A unique agrarian tradition, proudly preserved since 1870, celebrating the first householder out to plow! In Hoteni, this authentic celebration brings together the entire community, in a colorful show, music and ancient traditions. Dressed in festive clothes, the villagers accompany the celebrant in an impressive procession, along with boys who wear 12 ‘yearnings’ adorned with birch branches, ribbons and towels. Destination? Darasca Valley, where the ritual of watering on the face is accompanied by cries and wishes for a rich year and abundant fruit. But beware! The birthday boy tries to escape, running towards the river, but he is chased and caught by the vigilant villagers. All this spectacular scene is complemented by folk music and dances, turning the custom into a fascinating attraction for tourists who want to experience the authenticity of Maramureș!
